Arpin Agent Becomes First Mover to Cross New I-40
$688 Million Highway Project

OKLAHOMA CITY (January 10, 2012) – Arpin Agent, Affiliated Movers of Oklahoma City, made history this month when it became the first moving company to cross the new Interstate 40 cross-town highway, a $688 million project which began in 2007.

“It’s a proud day for us to join nearly 100 other local businesses and become the first mover to cross the new I-40 during its grand opening,” said Nathan Howell, manager and operator of Affiliated Movers of Oklahoma City.

The new I-40 cross-town highway is the most expensive roadway construction project in Oklahoma’s history and Affiliated Movers was there as a proud participant.  Along with close to 100 local businesses, Affiliated Movers joined the caravan as the only moving company represented from Oklahoma City, with three tractor trailers and two bobtail trucks.

In attendance were Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett, the Governor of Oklahoma Mary Fallen, U.S. Congressman James Lankford, and U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe.

About $570 million has been spent thus far on the $688 million project.  The highway was planned to open later this year, but instead opened to traffic about eight months ahead of schedule. The new 10-lane roadway is replacing the longest structurally deficient bridge in the state.
The elevated cross-town highway, built in 1965, has undergone repeated emergency repairs over the years. When it opened, the old cross-town highway carried 50,000 vehicles daily.  The new highway is designed to handle 173,000 vehicles daily.

  Affiliated Movers of Oklahoma City, Inc. had a successful 2011 year and it showed at the Arpin Van Line convention in West Palm Beach, Florida during the month of October.
